Should I be worried? [19 Mar 2009|08:20pm]
My lady wife the Librarian has been doing an online web 2.0 course thing. 13 things that the Librarian should be aware of.

Is it bad that not only could I guess most of the course, but I'd have completed most of the assignments already (example: I have - obviously - a blog, a flickr account, a youtube account, a facebook account, listen to Podcasts...)

Should I be more worried that I've been doing most of these things for several years now and the mainstream information services are only now being told about them?

So, Sweden's Eurovision entry just got selected [14 Mar 2009|10:20pm]
The singer is excellent. Seriously. Internationally renowned voice.

This is because the Swedish public voted for a slightly strange mix of techno and opera.

I watch Eurovision for the comedy value. Unfortunately I now rely on the family telling me what the incomprable Wogan says about the entries because BBC Worldwide are what is known in the trade as a bunch of incompetent c**ts, and the international channel no longer shows the Beeb's transmission of the ESC. I can't wait to hear what he says about this one though.

Still here [15 Feb 2009|03:59pm]
Just unable to find time or energy to update anything more strenuous than my facebook status.

We're all fine. William has just had his hair cut and looks incredibly cute. he can also now sing "Baa Baa black sheep" in both Swedish and English (near enough to count anyway).

had low key Valentine's day, with presents nowhere near as impressive as what [info]spaj got [info]dapperscavenger.

Life goes on. Work still sucks due to the local governement's insitance that less staff + higher production = good.

Was in Amsterdam a couple of weeks ago. That was fun. Saw the Superbowl in an Australian bar on Rembrandtplein. Being a Steelers fan, this was fun. At least one of my sports teams doesn't suck.

Have been listening to Opeth a lot. Their latest album is a brilliant headfuck.

Just bought a Vampire RP book on a whim. Its a completely new redone edition, but I was feeling nostalgic.

William is now toddling around witha pair of toy aeroplanes that flash and make take off noises.

Is that enough Random?

Writer's Block: Back to School [15 Jan 2009|11:53pm]

What fictional high school—from tv, film, or a book—would you most like to attend? Or would you rather never go near high school again, fictional or otherwise?

Just cos I ain't posted in ages: Life rolls on. I have a very runny nose and haven't slept well lately. Finally recovered from the cataclysmic stomach thing we all got about three weeks ago. Works sucks as per. Sprog's vocabulary and general growing upness amazing.

Oh yeah... [28 Oct 2008|07:52pm]
The local council are demanding the underfunded hospital I work at save money because it's over budget again, thanks to rising drug prices, increasing age of population and such like. Our department has raised production on less staff and I bet its the same throughout the hospital.
The dumb fucking politicians don't seem to have considered the possibility that their budget is what is wrong, not the way the hospital works.

Also:
While sat waiting for my flight to Britain I started reading a book. While speeding away from Heathrow towards central London about four hours later I finished said sick-as-hell, funny-as-fuck book.
That book is "Crooked little Vein" by "Transmetropolitan" (among other stuff) creator [info]warren_ellis. You really should read it, because I know you're all sick enough to love it.

Also also:
"There shall be blood" starring Daniel Day Lewis is incredibly boring, and Day-Lewis' performance (reminiscent of Bill the Butcher from "Gangs of New York") can't save the steaming turd of a script. Quite simply, nothing interesting happens for all two and a half hours. You can see why the Oscars people would shoot their loads all over it, but for normal people its pretty much unwatchable. "Burn after reading", the new Coen brothers flick with John Malkovich and George Clooney among others is good fun however. Brad Pitt, of all people, completely steals the film.

Now that really IS all. I think.

I don't even remember when i last posted [28 Oct 2008|07:37pm]
[ mood | indescribable ]

Stream of concioussness time again:

1) Damn I need a proper holiday. I mean a couple of weeks when I can simply get all the crap that I have to get done done, and spend some time either resting or playing with lil' Will.

2) Lil' Will is not very little these days. Two weeks and change short of two years old. Damn time flies.

3) I was in London this weekend. Spent my nights in Balckheath, just outside Guildford and then Amersham. three houses in three nights. Was over for the NFL game. Had great seats - eight rows back from the corner of one of the endzones. Three TDs right at us. Good views of the Saintsations and the highly amusing Saints Mascot, Gumbo. Good time was had. Unfortunately the weekend otherwise wasn't quite what I hoped. Either people change more than I expected or one friend's impending redundancy, nuptials and huge life crossroads was weighing him down more than he wanted to show. Good to catch up with folk I'd not seen in YEARS though.

4) I bought William a model ROutemaster bus at Hamleys in Heathrow Terminal 3 as an afterthought. He loves the damn thing to bits, and is saying "Bus" a lot. The word is the same in English and Swedish so which one he's using is anyone's guess. His vocabulary is growing at a really scary rate though.

5) Work still meh. Contemplating applying for a PhD place I saw advertised today. I am perfectly qualified for the job as far as I can tell. I have the weekend to get my application together if I go for it. Would mean leaving the comfort zone, but I want to get up in the world and get a damn sight better pay. SOme of my friends are getting paid obscene money for stuff that is - with all due respect - far less important than my job. Such is life in the Healthcare sector.

6) Nostalgia it may be, but I stuck "New Jersey" by Bon Jovi on while I was getting dinner this evening, and it's still a good singalong album. Twenty years old this year. Hard to believe. I have also decided my collection needs more Foo Fighters.

7) FWIW may I point any of you who have a liking for the heavier stuff towards Sabaton, and their nw "Art of War" album? I've only heard a couple of tracks, but at the very least you should find yourself a copy of the stonking "Ghost Division". They've got top taste in Ice Hockey teams...and that's what said team come out onto the ice to this year.

8) Hasn't this year gone fast? I feel old. Judging by the thinning of my hair, the few strands of grey at my temples and the acceleration of the damn stuff out my ears (I ask you, WHY???) I AM old. [info]slipscale is however older, and so this gets it's annual airing:

Peas. Out.

Dear George R. R. Martin [20 Sep 2008|12:17pm]
If you don't want people complaining that you're starting to make Douglas Adams look punctual then GET ON WITH WRITING THE FUCKING BOOK WE'VE BEEN WAITING YEARS FOR.

Seriously. I love the "Song of Ice and Fire" series. I love the Card game as well for that matter. We've been waiting for the latest book for far too damn long now though. How can you possibly be surprised that people are getting a mite pissed off with your constant prevarication?

I think you ought to know I'm feeling very depressed.

(William has a bit of a cough, and has burnt his tongue so eating hurts. Work sucks. I'm exhausted and feeling generally unmotivated. Mostly just worried about my lil boy though. I hate it when he's unhappy and there's fuck all I can do about it. I just needed to vent and this seemed as good a place as any.)

Life insane.
The time I am not working (where we are still seriously understaffed and overworked...and still they demand we savce money because the hospital is over budget...go figure...) or looking after William (who is very happy with going to Nursery school each day) is spent unconsious.

Soooo...that's about it really.

Oh yeah...as of tommorrow, married for 6 years. Scary isn't it?

Brain fart [16 Jul 2008|07:09pm]
[ mood | apathetic ]

So.

Stuff.

Was up at the in-laws for a few days. Very relaxing.

Was in Amsterdam over the weekend playing Blood Bowl. The game is really an excuse to get together with mates and drink muchos Beer. had the best steak EVER on the saturday night.
Came, as usual, in the middle of the tournament. Some of Europe's best players come to this shindig so that's not bad.

Family turning up at the weekend. Might actually make it to see a couple of movies for the first time in bloody ages. Hope the stuff I want to see is still showing.

Drowning in various painting projects.

Three weeks until I have to go back to work. Don't wanna.

Hum. Otherwise feeling kinda blank TBH. Summer is like that. Too damn hot.

I'm a sucker for these things:

1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List 5 songs you like that start with that letter
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions

Mr Ducker gave me "T". For the sake of the exercise I'm avoiding anything starting with "The".

sooooo......

Temple of Love - Sisters of Mercy
* well...duh. This should surprise absolutely noone being here. One of my all-time favourite songs.

This Love - Pantera
* From the period where Pantera epitomised aggressive music. Distilled anger.

Trooper, the - Iron Maiden
* Primarily here because of the glorious galloping bassline. I can just about play it...though I usually tie my fingers in knots trying.

This Sh1t will fuck you up - Combichrist
* Included because I was chatting about Combichrist and their ilk with a friend while wandering the streets of Amsterdam the other day. Big stompy dancefloor thing, introduced to me by [info]neferet.

Time to go - Dropkick Murphys
* Its a song about Ice Hockey. The DMs are Boston Bruins fans however, while I follow a swedish team, so I usually change the lyrics from "Black and gold" to "Vit och blå" if I'm singing along.
